Friday 20th November and Saturday 21st November 2009
On Friday this formal function was restricted to
members to open the new facilities: the lift, the toilets and the foyer. The
following day the function was repeated for invited guests.
Bernard Hughes (President) and Tony Christopher (Chairman) officiated, and the
Blackmore Singers opened the proceedings with a spirited rendition of 'There's
no business like show business' and 'Consider yourself at home'. The Players
then presented a short sketch by Alan Bennett, and the stage part of the evening
ended with a sing along led by the Blackmore Singers.
On Friday, the tape across the lift was cut by Edwina Herbert, a past member now
confined to a wheelchair and Laura Mulcahy, registered disabled, supported by
the President.
On Saturday, two long standing members, Chris Cutting and Pam Vardy did the job
with the Chairman of Devon County Council, John Berry, in support.
