10th July 2004
Exmouth Players were founded in 1928. In the early days, they had to rely on hiring halls for their performances, and rehearsals took place in a hut on the Rugby Club’s ground.
In 1953, they leased their present premises, converting them to a theatre when funds permitted. In 2001, they bought the theatre with the aid of a mortgage from the local council.
On Saturday, 10 July 2004, 38 members celebrated a successful 75th year with a Shakespeare theme party. The Green Room was dressed in period style, and basic victuals were served on wooden platters. A choice of punch was also served in pewter vessels.
Specially devised competitions (place the quote; unravel the anagram) tested the members’ knowledge, and four members took the stage to present well known speeches from the bard’s work.
It was a very good evening – a celebration devoutly to be wished!
